Gardener's World . . . gone mad?

I'm watching Gardener's world on demand right now, and some bits really do wind me up!

Since the start of the new programme we have have had many features that seem just a little incongruous to the rest of the programme and its history.  So far we have had a Top Gear style "hot and not" board, speed planting of trees and a 60 second makeover challenge, to name but a few.

This week however, we have Carol live judging contestants who are auditioning to receive her expert tuition.  The whole thing went a bit X-factor complete with over-exaggeration of anything, masses of drama, tension music and a complete sense of "this is such a difficult and important decision".

A step too far? A little disappointing?  I think so.

  1. Hi Ryan

I was so not impressed with the first of the new series that I have not got round to seeing two and three although they are videod for later.

I have joined Blotanical and been far more interested in reading the posts of gardeners around the world than what I am likely to find on this series of gardeners World. I am a Geoff Hamilton fan and I enjoyed monty Don's style I used to like carol Kline but she gave up her principles after her disappointment at Chelsea and clearly follows the latest trend in gardening not in my opinion what gardening is all about.

  2. Sounds over the top to me. Although I am unfamiliar with the show, it always seems that shows that should be interesting are loaded with crap and useless info. Take the History channel I used to love it and now it is all drama and reality shows. Crazy world be live in.

  4. Well I enjoyed the bit about making the little plant shelf, and Alys's idea about foil as a light reflector for plants growing on the window sill, I have tried it, but not with a box. I just stood the foil behind the courgette plants (tucked it down behind the pots) and low and behold they are standing straight and not leaning towards the light from the window, brilliant !so it wasn't that bad in my opinion. Perhaps I am easily pleased and not so critical. I do agree the hot and not board is a bit naff, wasn't Lily -Rose cute, one so young and so into gardening, fantastic.
